Staircase
Inspired by Michelangelo’s double staircase at the Palazzo Senatorio in Rome. This design inverts the first flight inward towards the central axis, creating a sense of movement around the half-dome niche while giving the staircase a greater sense of mass. The architectural frame surrounding the niche is derived from the Doric proportions illustrated by James Gibbs, using the classical order as a proportional system rather than simply as a decorative language. The resulting composition combines the movement of the staircase with the geometric discipline of the classical order.
