Excavating the Flood

Archigram Melbourne 2026

Excavating the Flood was published in AGM (Archigram Melbourne), an independent student-led architecture magazine founded at the Melbourne School of Design. Produced and distributed by architecture students, AGM aims to publish informal discussion and critical commentary around Australian architectural culture.

The article explores flood events and the traces they leave behind within the built environment. It examines how landscapes and structures become repositories of environmental change and cultural memory, and explores how archaeological strategies of excavation, conservation, and material memory can be utilised to resurface hidden histories embedded within architectural fabric. The work reflects an ongoing interest in the concealed ontological and psychoanalytical aspects of architecture and space.
